Bead-it-forward Breast Cancer Benefit

Animals: Wild About Finding a Cure

The theme this year is Animals: Wild About Finding a Cure. This theme encompasses any animal, real or imaginary, that you want to portray. And,for the first time ever, a design can span multiple squares. Since the squares are used to make shadow boxes and quilts, there are specific rules about sizes and how the beading is attached to the backing. The backing for each square is 2” x 2”. The beaded area is 1 1⁄2” x 1 1⁄2”. CABO will provide the backing for however many squares you want to make. Bring your beads to do peyote, two-drop peyote, brickstitch, or bead embroidery. Use a pattern or work free-form.  Help will be available to get you started and fasten squares to the backing.

Jill Wiseman's Festival of Lights Bangle

Join us at the February meeting when we work on a free project from Jill Wiseman called the Festival of Lights Bangle. This is an ingenious, easy, yet showy design. It makesup beautifully using 4mm Swarovski crystals, but if bling’s not your thing, use 4mm round gemstones or 4mm round pearls instead. The important thingis that your 4mm beads need to be round. Beads that are even slightly oval, like 4mm fire polished beads or 4mm Czech druk beads, don’t work well with the design.

Materials List

SuperDuos—5 grams

Size 11/0 Seed beads— 4 grams

Size 15/0 Seed beads—1.5 grams

4 mm Swarovski bicone crystals —

30-40 depending on the size of the bangle (or 4mm gemstones or 4 mm pearls)

Fireline, 6 lb.

Size 11 or 12 beading needles

1 Kumihimo huggy spool (Jill has a clever way to manage the

thread so you don’t have to change mid-bangle. You’ll need the huggy spool.)
